Stephen Q. Spencer, CFA, is a Managing Director at ACT Capital Advisors, bringing 36 years of experience in analyzing business models and valuing companies for investment purposes. His deep background as a buy-side industry analyst across all major economic sectors provides him with a unique perspective in advising business owners on exit planning, mergers, and acquisitions.
Before joining ACT, Stephen held senior leadership roles in the investment industry, including Head of Equities, Director of Research, and Senior Portfolio Manager for a prominent family of mutual funds. In that role, he oversaw investment operations for $12 billion in assets and directly managed mutual fund portfolios exceeding $7 billion. His responsibilities included in-depth company analysis and strategic investment decision-making across multiple sectors.
Earlier in his career, Stephen was a principal at a private investment management firm that served ERISA, Taft-Hartley, institutional, and high-net-worth clients. His decades of experience managing institutional capital and leading equity research teams now serve ACT’s clients as they navigate complex financial transactions and value-maximizing strategies.
Stephen holds a B.S. in Business Management with an emphasis in Finance, as well as an MBA from the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, awarded by the CFA Institute.
